“My brother said you’re a mean enchanter.”

He turned to find the small voice belonged to a grubby girl, barely taller than his knees.

“Please don’t hex us.” The boy’s eyes widened.

“I won’t hurt you.”

Wonder filled their eyes and pity his.

Snowflakes enveloped her in their quiet embrace. The purity rejuvenated her. Long it would be until she saw such beauty again. She knew the road ahead was strenuous and ugly.

Hooves crunched against melting snow.
Enchanted snowflakes filled the wake of the pallid stag, Celsus, and Fjolla, the ice witch.
Sol’s curse had spread across the Winterlands threatening to melt away the ice palace, turning the streets into rivers and lakes, and thawing the sacred frost that bound the world. They knew they must restore winter before the permafrost melted. If they failed, then the Winterlands would descend into chaos.

I hope you enjoyed these and that some magic refreshed your spirit from the doldrums of the week.

Hi honey! Just happened to scoot by (still officially on my hiatus) and needed to say this:

    1.Bull
    2.Bull
    3.Bull

Not intending to knock you, and I understand the perspective of this advice, but it only makes sense if we live in a world where our sole purpose is to make money. And we don’t, yet… right?

The third piece is pretty, by the way! Sounds like a lovely opening to a longer tale, too. Any chance of that?

Thank you! I asked an agent, Evan Gregory of the Ethan Ellenberg Agency, and he agrees with you. He said if it’s not a whole chapter from a book it should be okay.

I’m thinking of writing a short story about the last one. It made me think of Norse mythology. When I took a class about myths in college, the professor said that they believed the moon and night restored the world from the damage that the sun did during the day, but Fenrir the wolf also gnawed on the roots of the world tree, so the good guys could never get ahead.

And I mentioned Evan Gregory because… he is very approachable and experienced. He’s answered every publishing question I’ve ever asked on Twitter.
